DNS Cutover
The following processes need to be followed for getting the Gift Card Marketplace fully hosted platform to load inside your domain.
-
GCM will provide you with the IP address or hostname of the server where your eCommerce platform is hosted. This information is necessary for creating or updating DNS records.
-
CNAME Record (for Subdomains) - If you wish to use a subdomain (e.g., shop.yourdomain.com), you will need to create a CNAME record.
For example, if the GCM platform is accessible at http://yourshop.giftcardmarket.com, the CNAME record should point shop.customerdomain.com to http://yourshop.giftcardmarket.com
-
A Record (for Root or Apex Domain) - If you want to use your root or apex domain (e.g., yourdomain.com/local-card) directly, an A record will need to be created.
-
Updating DNS Records - You will need to log into your domain registrar or DNS provider's dashboard to make these changes. The process can vary slightly depending on the provider, so you may need to consult the provider's documentation or support for specific instructions.
-
Propagation Time - After updating DNS records, the changes may not be immediate. DNS propagation can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours.
-
SSL Certificate - Ensure that your platform can dynamically generate or assign an SSL certificate for the customer's domain to maintain secure HTTPS connections. You may need to provide an SSL certificate for your domain, which GCM will install.
-
Testing - Once the DNS changes have been made and have had time to propagate, GCM will thoroughly test the domain to ensure it correctly loads your eCommerce platform and that all functions work as expected under the new domain.
